If you like festivals, you'll love our
Pioneer Day Celebration held each year in August...
On Saturday, August 18, 2001, Pioneer
Tunnel will hold its annual "Pioneer Day" in celebration this
year of its 39th anniversary. Many people look forward to Pioneer Day which
is reminiscent of an old-fashioned community festival. In addition to the
regularly scheduled coal mine tours and steam train rides, many special
events are planned and held in Higher-Ups Park. A large craft fair with
over 80 vendors will be selling beautiful homemade crafts throughout the
park. In addition, there will be live music on the bandstand, an open-pit
chicken barbeque, and entertainment for kids. Food is one of the main attractions
and is sold in the park pavilion and under a large tent. Some of the delicious
foods sold are of regional ethnic origins. Bleenies, pierogies, and haluskie
are favorites. Bean soup, meatball and sausage sandwiches, french fries,
homemade ice cream and soft pretzels are some of the many foods that are
also sold in the park.
There is plenty of free parking at Pioneer Tunnel, and
Pioneer Day is an event that is fun for people of all ages. The event runs
from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. |
